Finding a university scholarship in London requires a lot of research and patience but the rewards are great. Each university offers different scholarships, so it is important to research your options carefully. Many universities offer postgraduate scholarships for masters degrees and PhD courses and some also offer undergraduate scholarships for foundation courses and bachelor degrees.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

Scholarship deadlines are often many months before the start of the course. In general, you need to apply for a course at the university before you can apply for the scholarships.

To begin your search, follow these steps:

1. Search the Study London course database for your preferred subject, and save your results.
2. When you have a few courses in your shortlist, check the profiles of your selected universities to find out more details.
3. Visit the websites of your preferred universities and search for scholarships for international students.

You can contact your preferred universities if you have any questions, but please note they are unlikely to respond to general requests for scholarships. Please do your own research before contacting a university with specific questions.

Types of Scholarships

There are a number of different types of scholarships available.

Full scholarships: These are the most popular scholarships for international students as they cover your tuition fees and living costs. Full scholarships are very competitive and usually go to high achieving students.

Part scholarships: These can range from small, one-off payments to covering your whole tuition fees. They do not usually include any support for your living costs.

Country-specific scholarships: Check the eligibility details carefully for each scholarship as some are for students from specific countries only.

Course-specific scholarships: These are for students who intend to study on a particular course.

External scholarships: In addition to university scholarships, there are also external scholarship options which you can consider. Some governments and local organisations sponsor students from their countries or provide student loan options to study overseas. 

Home/EU scholarships: You may find that some scholarships for UK students or EU students only which means you may not be able to apply. This is often the case when the funding comes from UK or European bodies.

Here are some things to consider when you begin your search:

• Not all UK scholarships are awarded based on financial need – most will evaluate your academic abilities.
• You can only apply for scholarships either when you are applying for the course or after you have applied.
• Many universities set the deadline for scholarship applications early in the year so start your research early.

LEVEL/ FIELD OF STUDY:

Scholarships are available to pursue a research program and the Scholarships are awarded to study the subjects offered by the university.

HOST NATIONALITY:

ELIGIBLE NATIONALITY:

This scholarship is open to an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, or Australian permanent resident.

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS:

1. The Scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance of $9,950 for up to three years for a PhD recipient, or two years for a Masters by Research recipient, subject to satisfactory academic performance. No extension is possible.
2. The Scholarship is for commencement in relevant research period in which it is offered for and cannot be deferred or transferred to another area of research.
3. No other amount is payable.
4. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funding.

Australia Henry Halloran Trust Practitioner in Residence Scholarship Eligibility

Eligible Countries: This scholarship is open to an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, or Australian permanent resident.

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Applicants must be an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, or Australian permanent resident with an unconditional full-time offer in a Masters by Research or PhD at the University of Sydney.
2. Applicants must be a graduate of the Henry Halloran Trust’s Practitioner in Residence Program.
3. Applicant’s research area must coincide with the interests of the Trust as determined by its strategic plan and list of objectives which include interdisciplinary studies in innovation and research in town planning, urban development and land management.

Australian National University Dixon-Walsh Scholarship

Funding for this award has been provided by CBE alumnus, Mr Alan Dixon who wishes to celebrate Dixon Advisory’s connection to Canberra and to ANU, and to honour the friendship between Mr Daryl Dixon and Mr Max Walsh AM.

LEVEL/ FIELD OF STUDY:

This scholarship is open to all undergraduate students  at the CBE Research School of Finance and Actuarial Studies and Statistics (RSFAS).

HOST NATIONALITY:

The scholarship is to be taken in Australia at ANU College of Business and Economics.

ELIGIBLE NATIONALITY:

The scholarship is open to Australian undergraduate students.

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS:

The scholarship is valued at up to $50,000 over up to 5 years.  The scholarship will be paid as per the schedule below:

Australian National University Dixon-Walsh Scholarship Eligibility:

The award shall be available for award each year to a prospective ANU student who:

(a) Is an Australian citizen or Australian Permanent Resident, or holds an Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa; Bridging Visa E (BE), Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (SHEV) (subclass 790), or Temporary Protection Visa (subclass 785); and

(b) Is a current school leaver, and has gained admission into an undergraduate coursework program at RSFAS through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC); and

(c) Achieves an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 86 or higher – including any Educational Access Scheme (EAS) bonus points.

How To Apply For The Australian National University Dixon-Walsh Scholarship

Application is via the University Admissions Centre (UAC) Equity Scholarships Portal.  The link to the portal is available by clicking on the “Apply Now”

You will also need to have applied for the Education Access Scheme (EAS) via UAC.

In addition, an application supporting statement shall be submitted at the Apply Now link, and supporting documentation forwarded to the ANU College of Business and Economics via email at scholarships.cbe@anu.edu.au prior to the closing date as set by the College.

The application supporting statement should be no more than 500 words and detail:

i) the circumstances you have faced that could pose a serious and sustained challenge to your ability to participate at university; and

ii) how the Scholarship would enable you to pursue your tertiary education plans, taking advantage of your studies to enable you to reach your full potential.
